Hood pins on your Miata ? Who has them?

One of the guys was asking me about where to mount hood pins on his Miata. So really not much info here. Anyone using them? Where did you locate them and why??

I think Keith Tanner has some on his V8 Targa Miata but not seeing any write ups on them?

    Any help? Photos etc?

Most I have seen use the upper radiator support as the mounting location for the anchors.

http://www.sparcousa.com/product/hood-pin - Sparco hood pins. Classic look, good quality, awesome price.

The most secure place to mount them is behind the headlight lids along the rail there. Some folks think it doesn't look too good back there, but I really like it. Others mount them up front beside the headlight lids.

I have some Aerocatch latches to install when I finally put my hood back on. My radiator took the place of the stock latch.

    I think I'm going with FM's placement https://flyinmiata.com/support/instr..._hood_pins.pdf

I run Aerocatch latches on my Miata and race car (hood and trunk) and I love them.

Hood pins on your Miata ? Who has them?

My core support on my NA is going to be cut out, so the mounting location that rev is talking about is what I am looking for.

Similar to the pins used behind the light assembly's on the targa Miata, does anyone have photos of rear mount latch location under the hood? Where exactly do they mount to and is there any fabrication needed to adjust the length of the pin? I figure they need to be shortened somehow because of the limited clearance, compared to being mounted on the core support?

Also, thanks for the thread Randy!

I had hood pins in the location atank and Rogue showed.

    * Install the pin in the radiator support first.

    * Then I put a dab of ink on top of the pins and let the hood down to mark where you drill on the bottom side of the hood. You could also install a temporary sharpened bolt or threaded rod where the pin will be located to center punch where it needs drilling, then install pins

    * Drill a hole just big enough to see if the pin trajectory is correct.

    * Gradually step up in drill size and adjust hole until there is no resistance between pin and hood. Die grinder will work. The bottom portion of the hole will need to be oblong to make up for the hood swing from up to down.

    * Then I took the factory hood rests that once were located where your pins are now located and drill a hole through the center big enough to go over the pins..

    * Push drilled factory rests back onto the pins. If you do it right, there will be a firm tight fit over the pins. With some adjustment, the hood will rest properly.

    * Make any adjustments needed to the pin and rest height for the best look and function.

    * Center and attach properly the lynch pin/hair pin shield on top of the hood while the hood is in closed position.

    Done. Hope that helps.
95 in pieces, but good pieces.

^ if you look, you see a 'pull' for the stock latch (always a good idea to keep the stock latch just in case you forget to latch the hood pins correctly... seen it happen all to often!)

Ha, funny you mentioned that. I remember adding what once was a pristine hood to my scrap pile.
