SEM did not indicate a primer other than the vinyl prep.

Think of it just like painting a wall. Trying to cover black is a "good luck" situation. A primer or at least a lighter color coat will help a lot.
That prep spray is to clean the surface.

Correct but SEM has no primer for their flexible/vinyl paint. So I guess you can't just spray any primer for that matter on an SEM paint if so you will prolly see flaking pretty fast. Maybe I can find another SEM paint to use as primer then coat it with this Firethorn Red but then again this red is nowhere close to an LE red specially the plastic pieces.
The only way to come close to an LE red is if SEM will make a vinyl paint base on the LE red. I have seen in one of the forum (miata.net) how a guy in UK ordered a custom mixed vinyl paint that resembled the LE and he spray painted it on a black seat and looked factory. Other than this I think it will be a waste of money to even try other available reds out there. They will either be too light or too dark.
I have used DuPont vinyl paint which can be color matched to sample by staff at an auto body trade supplier.
DuPont's auto tinting system consists of pigments and binders as separate components which are mixed as required.
This also allows you to match vinyl to your exterior color, from your color code .
I did this on a fifties car, painting a leather steering wheel to match the dash and exterior color.
No problems over a long period, hard wearing, only downside is that the leather feels like vinyl.
This requires application by spray gun.
Received my seat hinge covers from Cxmoney today. Thanks!
All in good condition, wrapped in an American supermarket catalogue.
All the products and the prices looked similar, except the alcohol.
California price for Jack Daniels is US$14 a 750ml bottle.
Cost about $40 in Australia.
Lots of tax on booze here.
