    Gauge hoods

Someone please educate me on the differences of a LHD gauge hood and a RHD gauge hood. Why is it that a RHD one will not fit a LHD car? I've never seen a RHD in person so and love the Zoom one. It is sooo cool looking but is only for a RHD car. Thanks for indulging my question of the day.

For NB's the long pointed tip that slides into the hole on the dash is offset and not centered. So that's why they are not compatible.

You can see it here called the "Locating pin"

I don't see why you cant just trim that pin off and snap it in place.......everything else is symmetrical from the looks of it.

    I don't about the NA's though.

Here's the underside of a 1.6 gauge hood, very similar. If that's the only problem...it would be very cool for this forum to have figured this out after so long But to me the left side of this hood looks like it has more meat, between the center pin and the one to the left of it, when compared to the area from the center pin to the pin on the right. Maybe it's the lighting and picture angle?
Can we get a gauge hood picture from one of the members with a RHD drive?

edit: actually yes, the hood is NOT symmetrical. There's always the possibility of shaping it to fit though...so long as the left and right side pins are actually symmetrical.

I believe the gauge hoods, besides for the centering pin being off set, have a slight rake to one side (ie the hood is not symetrical.) On a LHD car it looks as if the point closest to the windshield is offset to the right, closer to the center of the dash, while im sure the RHD cars have a point that is offset to the left.

    NA6 LHD vs. RHD pics!

    RHD is on the left:

Also the front edge of the hoods are not quite symmetrical. Even if one were to trim off the locating pin the edge of the hood doesn't quite line up with the dash.

    RHD is on the left:

    RHD is on the right:

Also, this RHD drive one doesn't have the rubber flap:

    LHD:

    RHD:

Oh, and thank you atank for sending me a RHD drive hood I can't use

Cool thread. I always knew there was a difference, but I thought it was just the rake of the hood to the LT or RT.

Thanks for the info. Saved me a bunch of money. To bad zoom doesn't do a LHD hood.
