Long time fan, first time caller.

Hey everyone! Just bought my first Miata, finally, after about 20 years of lusting after one. I know, weird car to lust after. I guess it's the whole bang-per-buck appeal of it.

Anyway, after months of trolling Craigslist and being either ignored or having cars sold out from under me, I found a pretty clean 1990 w/ power windows, a crappy aftermarket head unit and factory LSD (according to the owner) with only 78k miles. I would have preferred a 1.8L but I took what I could get. Plus, it's bone stock and upon initial inspection, all the mechanicals and electricals work great. Interior is super clean, bodywork is straight, a little rust on the drivers side rocker and the paint sucks. But she's all mine.

My plans for the car are mainly to autox it and occasional summer cruising. Already ordered a hard dog roll bar and my next mod will likely be some Flyin Miata frame rail braces, Koni yellow shocks and a ground control spring kit. A set of 6ULs and tires (undecided) will come later. I'm broke and this is a slow, long term build.

Looking forward to becoming a part of the roadster community and learning all kinds of nerdy things about weight transfer and suspension geometry and crap like that!

I searched for Miata, MX5, Roadster, etc on the Tapatalk app and this was the only one I found based primarily in the US lol.

Had a day off from work today and got the car registered, went for a little cruise on some local twisty roads, changed the oil and had my friend do a quick little inspection to see if the car is safe to autox this weekend. Looking forward to tossing the car around in bone stock form...as soon as I replace one of the tires that has a bubble in it. :-X

Welcome, miatas are definitely fun at AutoX. It's cheap and effective and the stock suspension is good. At least have 195mm tires and wider, the 185mm just seems undersized for any hard turns.

I'm from Long Island, NY. Born and raised here. Roads out here kind of suck, but I know a few good twisty sections that are fun when there's no traffic. First drive was good. Everything runs and functions perfectly. I'm truly blessed with a perfectly running and driving 25-year-old Miata. Only issues my buddy found were a small oil leak from the valve cover gasket and distributor seal and some pretty worn down pads.

So now I'm thinking my first upgrade will be a TDR performance brake kit w/ slotted rotors and some Motul 600. Figure I'm gonna do the brakes eventually, might as well do them right all in one shot. Anyone have any experience with this kit or alternative suggestions? My logic is telling me, it's a light car with very little power, I shouldn't have to spend a lot of money on brakes to get the performance i need. I should focus more on tires and suspension that will help keep my speed through the corners. But then again, I am still a noob.

Looks like you are trying to link an instagram photo? I don't think that will work. Do you have a free photo hosting account? Like Yahoo Flickr ? Or Google ?
