    Yellow Build

Hello. My name is Jovany, but everyone calls me Joe. I recently bought a 1992 sunburst yellow. Long story short my boss bought the car off a guy real cheap, drove it to the shop, and sold it to me. Picked it up for $1500, with the hardtop. I want to say its going to be a Track/Daily but lets face it, I hardly ever go to the track. So, Just daily build. Either way I have tons of parts that are going into this thing soon. I want to have it ready for Miatas at Hallet this year.

Here is the pic from the first time I laid eyes on it.

It has a ton of miles on it, just over 306k. The paint has its flaws but its in decent enough shape.

First thing I had to do was get it going again. It ran just fine, only had a problem with the brakes. I took it in to the shop and did a 1.8 brake swap. While i was doing the swap i went ahead and added stainless lines, put in some Hawk HP+'s, and Motul RBF600 fluid.

After I got it going to took it for a drive and enjoyed it for a few days.

The white car is my 91'. My plans are to take most of my favorite parts from it and put them on the yellow. I am also at the same time returning the white one back to stock, somewhat, for my wife. She is gonna learn to drive the white one until we can get her something nicer.

Here is a picture of one of the parts going into the yellow, its the only one I have for now.

    Enjoy!

Joe, you have a rare bird there, and for $1500... you stole it! I really like the yellow Miatas, and it looks like she's in good hands. Post more pictures of the interior and engine bay as well.

So this is how it's sitting right now. And the pictures requested.

I have been having a ton of fun cruising this thing around. It's so weird to be in a bone stock Miata. So things are going to start off slow here as I am leaving next week, bit as soon as I get back the changes will begin. Starting with a torsen swap and suspension.

Unfortunately the paint isn't the original. It's a yellow but was repainted. Also, the hard top has defrosters for it is not the original either. None of that bothers me though, it needed saving and I felt I was up to the task.

I spent some time with it after work today and fixed a few things. First was the antenna. Nothing wrong with it, I just prefer the shorty.

Next on the list was the third brake light was not working. I found that the wire was cut, so I fixed it and it still wasn't working. We have a bunch of harnesses around so I duh around for the light connector, replaced it and boom, light.

And finally some hood struts. Again, not really a broken issue more of a personal preference thing.

Gonna take it to kellers tonight to hang out with its cousins!

I love the sunburst, always has been my goal to pick up one of these and turn it into a fun daily driver. I like the direction you are going with this. Keep us updated, and have fun!

Hood struts are something I feel the car should have came with, but you know Mazda had the whole lightweight thing going on back then. But its much easier to work in the engine bay without bumping into that stock hood prop so that is one thing I will do eventually too.

    Thanks Chris!

So thought I would share some stuff I've been working on, all parts that are going on the car.
I just finished putting the engine together. It's a bone stock 99' engine I got from a customer. It has < 8% leak down and 195 psi across all four cylinders and has less than 56k. I just painted the block and added a coolant re-route kit, timing belt and water pump too. I used a metallic paint for the intake and I loved it at first. But as soon as I took it into the light I noticed it was super glittery. I'm way too lazy to change it now so I'm just gonna roll with it.

I've also been working on a coil on plug set up. Here is the bracket I made for the 1.6. I'm still not sure if I'm going to make one for the 1.8 or just buy it.

Also just finished pulling my yellow speed from my white 91'. Planning on tearing these suckers down and cleaning them. Also going to try to have top hats made if I can ever get my boss to call his machinist.

We'll that all I gots for now here is mine next to my bosses supercharged yellow. Have a great day!
