I don't have one, but this is what I know...

There were a couple of manufacturers/vendors for the carbon hardtops. One of them on the east coast had started a group buy a few years back and had issues delivering on the promise of making them. I have seen a few on the west coast and they are pretty cool, but mostly aesthetic in appearance. Some have had UV issues over time.

For the rear windows, people are either buying the curved glass from trashed OE hard tops, through Mazda directly ($$) or using something like Project G sells. Project G has a nice plastic/poly kit that is well thought out and looks great!

I have also seen a few, true CF hartops meant for racing purposes and attach by bolting the top directly to the cage/body. These are stupid-light, I want to say 5#? They are extremely thin and not intended for street cars at all. The rear windows on those are typically lexan, if I remember correctly.

I am sure others will have more info on the street version CF hardtops...

I dont think I could own that without putting my hands into the holes and pretending I'm some sort of mad scientist. It would just be too tempting.

I bought a "carbon" hardtop in 2010 for my NA i had at the time. Chaser aero the East Coast company mentioned above was doing a group buy on them. First off the hardtop was fiberglass with layer of carbon fiber over it. Besides chaser taking over 6 months to get the top to me, it had issues with the UV coat and, weave, and came with stress cracks near the lexan window from shipping.

I had source my own OEM window seals (Chaser said they were discounted, which was not true), I had take a dremel to the underside to make it sit flush and the front didn't not line up with the windshield banner. I had to remove the frankenstein bolts because the rear of the HT came with tabs, that needed to be drilled and i had to source hardware for that as well.

Over all i was very displeased with the whole experience. Wasted a lot of extra money and time. Now I have not seen Carbon Miata's products or heard any feed back but you would need the hardtop shipped. But heres only difference I can see from chaser.

Carbon Miata HT- Uses oem rear mount design, which is weird because the OEM HT rear mount has bolts and a gasket inside the mount.

Hopefully this gives you some insight on some of the things you might have to deal with if you are considering a carbon top.

There is a company in Japan, Cruise, that makes one. It is $1200USD without a window, and $1650 with a lexan one. http://item.rakuten.co.jp/toptuner/cru402113a0002/

Improve Craft Cruise makes awesome stuff !!! I would love to have a set of their full Carbon Fiber doors, but wow they are super expensive (gotta pay to play right), Woolery has a set of their FRP doors on his pit crew car.

Do you have the website for cruise? I lost my link to them, last time I checked they are big into the drift cars, 240's and the like?

There is or used to be a company in SOCAL, IIRC, that sells a CF laminate top for a Miata among other items, but the name escapes me at the moment.

Yeah, $1650 (plus shipping) is a chunk of change, but then OEM tops aren't all that cheap either. I've read of several folks in the US who bolt theirs down to prevent theft. I'd hate to live someplace where that would be a concern. Here in Tokyo I don't even worry about my stereo HU...
