heaters would be pretty cool in the Miata leather, if there could be a clean look for the control mounting. I typically wear thin pants, which can lead to assicles. Was this a universal kit? Do the controls mount in a factory location?

Heaters are AWESOME in the Miata, top-down drives in the winter are one of the best things you can do with these cars! Mine came as OEM equipment, so I think you might be able to source the OEM NB2 switches for yours, not sure about the price though.
