Racing Beat Power Pulse Exhaust System for 96 NA Review.

This is a review of the Power Pulse Exhaust System w/ standard connecting pipe.

TOOLS: I think you only need a ratchet with a 14 socket, but you must soak up the 02 sensor with WD40 to remove it.

QUALITY: The quality is great, the welds are clean and its all stainless steel w/ a polished muffler & tip. It's a bit heavier than the OEM unit, which weights about 22lbs. The RB exhaust system weighs in about 27lbs plus or minus 1lbs, but it's a bigger exhaust system.

FITMENT: Although I had to remove my aftermarket rear right tow hook, because it kept hitting the muffler, the exhaust system fits like a glove.

PERFORMANCE: I didn't buy this for the performance. Racing Beat claims 3.2hp on the dyno, but that's not something that you can feel. I did noticed that my power band moved up by 500rpm. My Miata usually starts picking up at around 4k rpm before I installed this exhaust, so about 4500rpm is the new sweet spot. Due to the increased flow of this new shiny beauty, I would expect real performance gains from the Racing Beat system if paired with a TURBO.

SOUND: Although I'm still in the "Beak In Process", the RB System sound almost as quiet as the OEM unit. Pretty nice with no raspy sound. There is a very mild drone, but you can still hold a conversation with your passenger. This is by far the quietest muffler I have ever owned. I will continue to update the sound when I reach about 500 miles on this new muffler.

^ Nice, I had the RB header on my old 1.6 and I remember how nice it was, plus the gains were noticeable compared to other headers. I'm kind of thinking of getting the RB intake since I can't afford boost at the moment, but my FM STB would have to go.

I had an RB cat-back with the non-resonated midpipe on my old '96. It sounded very nice. Subtle but noticeable. I didn't notice any drone - unlike the Dynomax that preceded it. The double-walled tip looked great for years, too.

I would love to put one on my current car to quiet it down a bit. Actually, quiet it down a lot.

Update: 250 miles on the new exhaust, it's a bit louder now, but not by much. In addition, I did notice the exhaust drone got a bit louder as well. I can hear the drone at around 2500-3200 rpm especially if your going up hill. It's nothing serious, just a very mild buzz you hear in the back. Again this is by far the quietest exhaust system that I have ever experienced.
