As the title states, can I get away with just using silicone all the way around the pan or is it vital that I have those rubber seals in place at the two ends of the oil pan on my Miata?
Pulled my motor out last night to swap pans to one with a bung welded on for my oil drain and would like to have it all together and back in the car by tonight, but I can't get those seals until a couple days from now. If I can just do silicone it'll make life a lot easier.

I wouldn't risk it, considering what the fix is if it doesn't work.
I should also point out, I need it to last me til winter. When winter comes I'll be pulling the motor/trans for a 6speed swap. If its leaking a bit I could replace it with the gaskets then. But if there's a chance it could be pissing oil from there once I get it back together I'd wait.
Almost wish I could just reuse the ones that were on there for 1200miles lol.

$13 is peanuts considering it can save your motor from losing oil pressure.
I'm not worried about the cost of the parts, if I was I wouldn't be turboing my car. I'm more worried about the time constraints I have. And nobody local to Me has them in stock.
I was looking at The ones i pulled out and with silicone and that it might be okay. Worst case scenario I have a slight leak and fix it this winter.

Rockauto.com plus overnight shipping.
RockAuto.com & parts-geek are pretty dependable. I would shoot for the gaskets, but I have seen people get away with RTV silicone. If it were me I would just order and wait until the gaskets arrive.
