I spent some more time playing around with my camera today. This time I decided to try macro for the first time so I borrowed my mom's lens. Opinions and criticism are welcomed so that I can learn.
I found it pretty tricky to get a crisp picture. All pictures are right off the camera except for the horizontal S2000 picture which is just a slight crop. No editing. Overall I'm pretty happy with this first attempt.

This isn't an amazing shot, but I noticed my wife and son walking in front of me while we were at this place today, whipped the camera to my face, and took this shot:
Barely had more than a second to think about it in the moment. HOWEVER, I noticed we were walking into a dark hallway with well-lit windows (to replicate a storefront). I already had a picture like this in my head before the shot above was even taken.
Of course...if I'd have thought to up my shutter speed the first time, I'd have ended up with this (which I got by asking my wife to hold still ):

I tried Macro again today. I've never seen my cat sleep this soundly before, so I took a few pictures of her. Last time I tried Macro I got some feedback to try increasing the DOF a little so that it didn't scream that it was taken with a Macro lense.
