    Annoying Orange

    Hi Guys!

    Decided to register here since it looked like a friendly bunch. My name's Stefan, I'm from The Netherlands. I own a '98 Evolution Orange (mk2/NB) 1.8

    I started with a '91 Red and took it to places you wouldn't wanna go with a miata. It's seen sun, it's seen rain, road, rocks, gravel, sand and even agricultural offroad-action (don't ask).

    My dad has by then, driven his NBFL Crystal Blue to pieces on the german Autobahn while overtaking a truck (blew his rear-right tire and went into a spin), and decided to take his chances with a '98 Evolution Orange Supercharged 1.8. It's been about a year after which he decided to trade both his MX-5 and daily for one 4 person cabrio. He gave me gibs on the MX-5 and I didn't doubt for a second. Sold my Red and took the Gold.

    Didn't seem like a bad deal to me. Up to now, this car has been the same places the Red has been at. Roads, rocks, sand, grass, etc... you name it, it's been there... yes, even minefields.

    So, next to loving my MX-5 I'm an IT-Engineer, currently active at multiple hospitals and fanatic photographer.

    Should you not be bored of this yet, try your luck on 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8

    Aside of my own car, I also love photographing other cars as well. One very nice example is the one of Cermivelli.

    I hope to do more soon enough... as soon as the weather allows me to.

    Hopefully you've read through my entire introduction and liked bits and pieces here and there. If not, my apologies for wasting your time

    Great to have you join our site! First off, nice to see so many beautiful pictures of your/other's cars. Also, good having some history with these little roadsters. I'm really digging your Evo. I like the mods you've done so far.

    Welcome to the madness!!
    I've got a lot less horsepower - luckily they are Japanese horses - usually in better shape and more motivated.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for the warm welcome. I truely feel welcome haha!

    First things to change are the rims. I've bought myself a set of Rota Grid Gunmetal with polished lip. When I bought the rims, they were damaged severely where I could either attempt to refurbish them, or throw them in the bin.

    I chose to refurbish... after alot of research I decided to try myself instead of spending around 800 euro for a refurbished lip.

    From lower left to upper right:

    - 10 kg vibration suspension;
    - Handdrill (replaced with correct drill) with a diamond-drillhead;
    - Bicycle inner-tire to make rim turn;
    - Electronic motor (1500rpm, which was too fast to use) as axle

    So, after wetsanding the rims (60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 200, 240, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 2000, 3000) and polishing I ended up with this:

    Got some tires on there:

    And now we wait for spring to arrive!

    I survived, Phatmiata
    I started out with the electro-motor as the source of rotation, but 1500 rpm made the entire working bench WALK AWAY!
    So yeah... after trying to stabilize the bench with a placeholder from ceiling to bench to perform downward pressure, it still walked off on its own.
    That's why I decided to try the suicide-drill-or-die-by-rotating-rim method.

    It's not a professional result, but I'm satisfied

    It actually turned out rather nice, and with no trip to the hospital for missing fingers is always a good sign!

    Why you no keep the wheels on your car?

    Just jack up the rear, mount your wheels, start her up, put her in gear, and go to town.
