NB SRS Steering Wheel on an NA?

I live in a state, Virginia, that requires me to use my airbag steering wheel. I'd personally like to ditch the whole SRS setup, but that isn't allowed - legally in Virginia. I like the looks of the Nardi SRS wheel used on NBs and other model Mazda cars. Does anyone know if it is a direct bolt on, or if not, what I might have to modify?

hmm.. now thats an interesting question... I'd say check the connectors because I suspect you'd need to change more than just the wheel itself (sensors and control box too maybe?)

what about just putting the stock wheel and airbag back on long enough for inspections and use whatever you want the rest of the time?

One upon a time my dad used to put on a cat converter only to pass emissions, then went back to his regular free-flow setup.. lol

I put a NB wheel in my wife's and did the resistor keeping the system intact but inop.
You would have to pull the wheel to know, but we also have no legal reason to keep the bag here.
She is small, and doesn't like sitting close to the bomb.

I am running a Nardil NB wheel with the airbag wired, lord only knows if it will go off in a wreck and I hope to never find out. You have to fill the holes in for the clock spring and drill two new holes for it to work with the NA. I just filled mine with 5 min epoxy and drilled two new ones where they are on the NA wheel. I love it compared to the OE NA wheel!

I just made small jumper wires with crimp connectors on both ends attached them to the oem connectors and tucked them out of the way. Be sure to disconnect the battery before you do anything with the airbags.

Thanks for the quick replies. It sounds like it is doable. My guess is if you aren't throwing an SRS code, you are golden. Now I just have to buy one...

    Me as well.

Interesting tidbit though. Someone told me that a protege5 bag will work with an nb nardi wheel, which i found is not true. NB Nardi wheels and NB non nardi 3 spokes (along with protege5 wheels) do are different internally. The nardi wheels utilize a 4 screw horn button while the P5 and non nardi utilize 3 screw horn buttons. This slight difference changes the horn button considerably, as the 3 screw button has risers to hold the bottom half of the bag up, while the 4 screw does not. So in conclusion, if you put a p5 bag in a nardi wheel, you will end up with a poorly fitting bomb that wobbles from top to bottom.
