$5000 Race Class Launches in SoCal

    March 20, 2014 - Corona, CA

The SoCal Region of the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is excited to launch a new racing series that will utilize race vehicles costing $5,000 or less. This new concept was brought to life when several active racers illustrated that the level of car preparation in NASA has reached a point that can be discouraging to a grassroots person that wants to begin the sport. "It would be foolish to ignore the recent interest level and growth of so called crap can racing, but we didn't have a solution that allowed us to maintain the level of safety and professionalism that NASA racing is known for," said National Chairman Ryan Flaherty. NASA offers the most comprehensive driving training ladder in the business but after 20 years of operations, the basic level of race entry has developed to a higher level. The idea behind this class is to visit the race car "Boneyard" and bring something back to life. There is a huge supply of perfectly safe race cars that can be repurposed for very little money. Cars from classes like Pro-7's, CMC, PTF, SE-R, H4, Spec Neon, etc would make a perfect candidate for this new series.

The claimer aspect is a novel approach to keep the modifications to a minimum and offer something that is attractive to any new driver or someone that wants to enjoy racing at a very affordable price point. Nothing will limit financial investment into a platform more than knowing that it can be purchased for a fixed price of $5,000. The claimer rule only applies to the top 3 finishers and said car must record a better lap of 3 seconds or more to be eligible. Flaherty said, "the claimer concept has worked for years in circle track racing so we are going to apply that known strategy to circuit racing."

Have you always dreamed of enjoying wheel-to-wheel racing for $5000 or less and reap all the professionalism that NASA offers? NASA events offer the highest staff to customer ratio in the business and always have trained safety teams on site with advanced rescue equipment. Additionally, NASA offers the best insurance coverage in the business with $1 Million in participant medical coverage. In comparison, most other groups only offer $20,000 in protection. There is a difference when you race with NASA.
