Sad to say we've had a setback... after the 'test day' oil change, it looked like we struck gold (so the bearings are shot). ...engine has to be rebuilt... so now the car sits up on jack stands waiting until we get to it...

Sorry to hear about that. At least everything else on the car is ready to go. Do you have another engine to drop in?

we sadly do not have another engine ready to go (did not expect this engine needing to be replaced/rebuilt right after buying the car!)

We do have a short block and head ready to be redone... but it is a 1 step at a time thing obviously...

Photos still going to happen (hopefully in June)! We are expecting the head back from the machine shop tomorrow... then we see to the bottom end (if the spare we have is good or not) and go from there.. so stay tuned!

New goal of having it at the June 7th weekend NASA MidOhio event now! (taking the month of May off from track events)

It's always good to be able to show progress. I always enjoy the 'final assembly' portion of replacing/rebuilding an engine ... then I dread the 'first startup' portion of the process.

yes.. it was with baited breath for that 1st start up today!

..so anyway, after sitting since April, we finally have a Spec Miata again ready for action!

...had a small hick-up with the wrong weight oil and lifter noise, drained and refilled with proper 5w30 and all is well again!
