Had a bad experience with Westco. It gave up after less than two years, so I replaced it with AGM.
How did the battery work (life of the battery?) My 1990 original Miata has killed so many batteries so many times I've lost count. I'm looking for a better battery that won't go dead.
Help!

I use a Yuasa YTX-20l. 12 pounds and 270 CCA. Only had it a few weeks but its awesome.
Just another cracka azz cracka with an Old Beat up '97
I use an AGM battery from Sam's Club. It is a little larger and has the same CCA's as LS engine uses. For a stock size Miata, I am in the O'Rielly camp.
is that a re-badge of the westco? looks exactly the same.
This is what I use and I have had good luck so far with no issues. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0038N...rxL&ref=plSrch
I suspect that they are the same along with several other "brands" that are likely to come up in a search for Miata batteries available in the USA. EastPenn Manufacturing looks to be the manufacturer of the basic Miata AGM battery in the USA and they are sold under multiple labels through various outlets. See this December 2009 post from mnet by mnet moderator tom4416:
I looked around the interwebs and came up with this partial list of Miata batteries that I suspect are EastPenn products:
I've been to the East-Penn center in Virginia and seen the racks of AGM batteries with the various private labels on them. They are the only company producing that particular AGM battery in the US and so no matter what is says on the label about brand or CCA's, it's an East-Penn battery. CCA's can be measured at different temperatures to give different readings, long been a trick in the industry that has almost no standards to go by. If you would rather pay more for the WestCo to get the same battery, go right ahead. WestCo does offer a better warranty than the Marathon branded one but unless it's defective right out of the box, can't imagine one going bad in under five years anyway. Also, I know for a fact the BatteryMart Marathon comes direct to them from East-Penn and is about as fresh as you can get. They do not stock huge quantities of these batteries, basically order them as needed. My last one from them was actually dropped shipped from East-Penn with the Marathon label already on it but in a Deka box.

There may be more. The manufactured battery dimensions and design may change over time and some of the pictures you find may not be an exact match, but chances are you are looking at an EastPenn manufactured battery. With this in mind you may want the cheapest deal you can find or you may want to purchase from a store near you and pay a few dollars more. While the batteries are warranted, If your Miata is a daily driver, you'll want to keep your downtime to a minimum if your battery needs replacing. That is where purchasing your Miata battery locally and paying a few dollars more may be cheaper in the long run.

Been saying this for years. Ordered a Westco a while back, only to have it die in two weeks. Bought an Autozone battery locally. Except for the labels, they were the exact same. The Westco cost $30 more.
