I took a roadtrip to Karuizawa last weekend! I live in Kyoto, and the drive took a good 9 hours each way since I avoided toll roads. I'm a poor college student, but I figured it's more fun to see the countryside and drive the touge anyways. I borrowed my building manager's Honda Life, bought some canned coffee, and took normal highways up north to Nagano Prefecture. I brought along a camera body to document the trip! (In case anyone is interested in specifics: Nikon FE, Nikkor 50mm f1.4 AI, Nikkor 24mm f2.4 AI'd, Nikkor 200mm f4 AI, cheap tripod, PL filter (used on most shots), lots of film, and a gopro.)
Anyways, here are the pictures of the drive there and the meet itself! (I have another roll of a couple more cars that lingered around after the meet ended and the drive back to Kyoto via Highway 161, but it's not finished yet). It was a long trip and sleeping in a kei car on top of an old set of bilsteins on the side of the mountain road wasn't the best I've ever had, but this was one of the greatest experiences of my life without a doubt. Anyone who gets the chance should make a trip out of it.

First sighting somewhere in the morning before Karuizawa, in a small farming town. Around 5 am. Turns out it was a shop car!
Pulling into a Lawson's around 6am to get a couple hours shut-eye before the meet, I find these guys having breakfast before it all starts (and the shop car again!):
