Yeah, plus to honor the warranty, I had to ship it back. So, I had the Autozone and Westco batteries side by side. Same casings, pin marks, etc.

    'Zone's is not a AGM.
After having a non AGM explode in my trunk, I only use AGM.
    I get mine from O'O'O'Reilly.

But apparently it was at one time so it is worth checking the current inventory if the 'Zone is close to you. I don't have an O'Reilly's in my area. The Marathon Battery made the most sense for me as it is currently a nickel under $100 with free shipping and no core charge.

I work for Oreillys, The battery is made my east penn, and I have had one of their batteries in my miata for almost 3 years now. We will put our batteries on a slow charge after it has been in the store for 6 months then if it makes it til 12 months in the store we do it again and at 18 months it get relabeled as a reconditioned batter and sold much much cheaper then a new battery even though it is practically a new battery.

I have a Deka ETX30LA, works really well. Small form factor and lighter then the battery it replaces.

The extra cca aren't required over the smaller deka's but as mine is a daily etc and the price difference was 40 dollars, got the bigger battery

Apparently Duracell makes the Miata AGM battery as well!!

You can buy them from a store called Batteries Plus, part number is SLIU1RT

    Price is $109.99

    Duralast 8AMU1R - AutoZone VS Marathon 8AMU1R - Amazon

    Local VS Online
    $124.13 (OTD) VS $99.95
    Needs core exchange VS None
    OEM size VS SAME
    US made VS SAME
    AGM VS SAME
460 Cranking Amps VS 400 Cranking Amps
    370 CCA VS 320 CCA
    45 Reserve Capacity VS SAME
5 yr warranty VS 1 yr

IMHO 5 yr warranty and supporting a local business outweighed the price difference. But then again I don't race.

    That's another EastPenn battery: http://www.eastpennmanufacturing.com...ive-batteries/

The Autozone Duralast brand is either EastPenn (AGM) or Johnson Controls (Non-AGM). Jonson Controls also makes the Optima line of batteries. Here is a very detailed post about the differences in batteries and their manufacturers: http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/batt...mation.610857/

    Here's the condensed version:
Sears- Diehard: Lead Acid- Johnson Controls, Platinum AGM- Odyssey, Gold Advanced AGM- Eastern- Penn.
    Interstate- Johnson Controls.
Everstart- Johnson Controls (Exide Contract Cancelled).
Autozone Duralast- Lead Acid- Johnson Controls, AGM- East-Penn.
Pep Boys (including Bosch)- As of Aug 2012 Exide
Napa- Lead Acid- Johnson Controls; AGM- East-Penn.
    Optima- Johnson Controls.
Varta AGM- Fall 2012- Johnson Controls in a new US plant.
    Costco-Johnson Controls.
Northstar- Northstar and also distributed by Batteries Plus as the X2Power and Exide under the Northstar label.
    Duracell- East Penn (Deka)
Rayovac (Batteries Plus)- Lead Acid- Johnson Controls; AGM- East Penn (Deka)
    Deka- East Penn
