Anyone done the ghetto jb weld crank key way fix?

I was at the track Saturday for an event and happened to notice that I had the dreaded crank pulley wobble. I didn't feel comfortable running the rest of the day(noticed right after the first session...bummer) so I just went home. Question is, has anyone had success with the jb weld trick? I have another engine that had low compression that I was planning on rebuilding but need some time. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

The thing is...you actually have some time. I had crank wobble for a couple of months before I finally switched out the motor. Can't drive it hard anymore...and it'll progressively get worse. I think in the end...my keyway had been chewed out about...3x the size.

Inspect the crank, I have had ones that were just damaged in the pulley boss.

I swapped out the pulley from my old engine and there was no difference. I think I'm going to go ahead and do the jb weld "fix". Its my daily and I'd rather try something than nothing I suppose. I'll be doing it Saturday so I'll post pics of my discoveries.

I did it on my 323gtx. It held for a while. The current owner made a positive mold of the keyway, then machined a custom woodruff. It still runs today on 18psi of turbo feeding it.

Whatever you decide, it won't get any better leaving it, so get your spare engine build going, JB weld your current one in the meantime.

Word. Probably ordering the rebuild stuff with tax return money. Thinking of 10:1 comp 1.7L.

Eh. For less money you can swap in an NB motor/hybrid and still make more power than a built 1.6.

True but I'm mostly doing it for the hell of it. I did a 4w mashup in the last car. Not gonna go crazy with it but might as well do something fun if I'm rebuilding.

I didn't get a picture of the crank but heres the key.

Sooooooo...the jb weld wouldn't set up fast enough for my impatient ass(this was last night after work and I had to drive this pile 40 miles home) so this happened. Made sure timing was set correctly, hub was seated all the way and the gear was on the correct side of the blown to crap key way. Not at all right but hell neither is jb weld. Not going anywhere anytime soon. Also had a spare good key, hub and timing gear that I used.

That's all you can hope for. Allow some proper cute time and make plans for the engine replacement.

For sure. Waiting on the tax return to hit the bank account to have a little cushion for buying the rebuild parts.
