    90-93 half-shaft w/ABS toothed rings, open diff

Anyone that has swapped in a LSD into your NA6 have an old half-shaft laying around? I need one in good shape for a car with ABS and an open diff.

    Please and thank you.

I didn't think you could have have ABS with an open diff from 90-93 (i.e. ABS would have been on an option package with cruise control, power windows and power mirrors)?

I thought all cars with an auto trans had an open diff.

This is for my 92 B&T POS.

I didn't realize it was an automatic.

I have a pair these half-shafts in my garage; one with a damaged inner CV joint. Do you need the entire half-shaft, or just the end CV joint, etc.? Do you need both of the pair?

Well, here's what's going on. I put new tires on the car and had them road force balanced. Still had a vibration at 65-75 mph. I had the tire place check the balance and all 4 are near perfect. We put the car back up on the lift, put it in drive and got up to speed. That was fun! Right side is fine, left side vibrates. So the guy pushed and pulled and turned that wheel by hand. Unfortunately, I don't remember if it had play left/right or up/down. The bearing seems fine (no noise) and the guy suspects the half-shaft is bad.

Would you agree with this assessment?

Its possible, if there is too much play in the CV joints, or if they are binding up a little. If you replace them, go ahead and replace the bearing as well - I would've suspected the bearing first assuming all your bushings are still good.

How does the vibration manifest itself when you're driving?

Rear of the car shakes, steering wheel does not.

Look for a shop locally that can rebuild the half shaft/cv.

I can buy a re-manufactured part from Autozone for $90. Is this difficult to replace?

Be mindful- as I understand it, the 2-piece axles are not being manufactured any longer, so you will need to remove the short stub axle (the one with the mounting bolts) and insert the new 1-piece axle in it's place. There's nothing difficult about it, it's just more convenient having the 2-piece set-up.

Sometimes the axles can be an absolute bear to separate from the hub. I know guys who couldn't free them with 40T presses, others who had absolutely no issues.
