    Alignment question!

I have a 96 Miata and just had the alignment done. I used flying Miata specs. But toe came out wrong I think. Do I need to go back or is this toe acceptable. Toe came out to .13 degrees at each corner. So .26 degrees total front and .26 degrees total back. Will this cause excessive wear? I know the suggested was .15 degree total. Front and back. What do you guys think?

Yup, that's a bit a too much toe in the front. You want about 1/16" toe total in the front, the number you say is almost double that. It
is a little aggressive for the street. The rear is alright. If the alignment isn't to the numbers you wanted, you shouldn't drive away.

What size tires are you running? What is average use for this car?

The car is mainly used for autox now but I do want to be able to drive it whenever I want and not worry. I gave them the spec but they must have had an issue since the machine is in degrees and not inches. I have a lifetime alignment so I can go back if needed. Everything else looks great so I looked right over the toe no thinking about it.

I prefer zero toe all around, but that suits my preferences and usage.

Do you do any highway driving? Does zero toe cause the car to be unstable or a little more difficult to drive at higher speeds? IVe thought about going zero toe but was worried about this. Sometimes I drive an hour to autocross or to work.

Yes. Zero toe is stable. You are over-thinking it.

What he said. But if you want to delve deeper... (Red pill)

Zero toe is pointed directly ahead. Do you always want 0 toe? No.

Short answer on what alignment specs. are...

Toe - If you were directly above the front or rear looking down it is how much the tires point in to center or out. You can call it your 'scuff-angle'. Out drags the inside. In drags the outside. But that all depends on the other settings.

Camber - From the same top look would be if the top of the tires leaned inward, to center, or outward. 0 Deg. and 0 toe sound optimal. But you are not running in a strait-line with your Miata, are you?

Caster is the fun one! Ever rode a bike? Take your hands of the bars? Whee! Those front forks were bent forward to give you equal positive Caster. They fight one another to push the steering to the left and the right. Turn those bars around and try hands-free and you are at PrimeCare getting stitched, at minimum!

You want to set your car for what your driving aspirations are.

A lot of the vendors have specs.. And there are are some of us that have posted.

Start you a record. What it felt like. Where it squealed. Build thread, personal log or other. But you post it. We suggest help. Your input helps us build the knowledge and you at the same time. Then we have to whoop it at Auto-X!

    HTH!
