The BMWs use a dual sender system. One is on the fuel pump, the other is a stand-alone sender. They are on opposite sides of the tank. One is more expensive than the other ( by a LOT ).Originally Posted by Agent[emoji1282
As an owner, you hope and pray the cheaper one dies, because the other requires you to replace the entire fuel pump.
The gauge reads the average of the senders. The low fuel light reads one signal. So, if one sender shat the bed, the light still works, but the gauge does the funky chicken. Yeah. German engineering.
