I was wondering this around the holidays when I was looking for a Nikon and all I saw in ads were Canons..................
I have not a clue. Maybe they've been too busy developing their new D4 and D800? Haha.

They had a huge flood in their factory which delayed their new products a few months. But I know the D90 and D300 have been discontinued for a while now. I think the D300S just went on the extinct list too.
I keep forgetting that Japan has had kind of a bad year.... Lots of everyday things, much less cameras are in short supply. In many cases manufacturing has been interupted.
It's odd, we still hear about Katrina and Haiti, but the people of Japan just quietly put their heads down and started recovering. The day after, there were people with shovels and rakes helping themselves and each other. They did not sit still and wait for assistance from the government.
Very admirable
Sorry if I have offended anyone.
