1991 Mariner Blue - Built 1.8 swap, EFR, Fab9Tuning, Tii drivetrain
styling is important, but I am probably most interested in specs. I know there have been numerous rumors about something really lite weight (around 2200lbs) and I would love to see that.
if it doesnt have a smile, its not a miata

In all honesty I like it more then the other one. The other is too sharp, wheels to big, very edgy. A miata should have curves, seem playful and simple. Oh, and it always needs to smile.
1990 Miata, she was red but now she is Spirit Green!

I hope it has the dimensions of an NB.. and that they keep it subtle and classy. If you look at all generations of miata, it has always been a deep design with nothing overly sharp or controversial.
IMO the NC was fat. The NA was a more pure design, but the NB was the best version of the miata from a sporting standpoint. Its dimensions allow for more stability while still retaining a lightweight nimbleness.
I always look at my miata and wish that it was just slightly wider. The nb has those dimensions, especially in the rear fenders. In that area, it resembles the m2 1006, which is never a bad thing. Hopefully, Mazda gets it right with the ND.
1st pic is the best, the others not so much/not at all.
Screw styling ques that keep it in the ''brand.'' There is a reason that no other mazda even had a thought at getting into my drivers list. One ugly trend shouldnt be the downfall of an entire lineup...and this goes to all manufacturers not just mazda.
Lets just hope it doesn't get heavier/bigger... I can deal with an ugly face.
My guess is that is going to look nothing like the pictures in the 1st post, because if you look at them they all look like the NC. This is going to be a complete redesign not a midcycle refresh. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if it did not have a the styling cues of other mazda's. I mean in a way the Miata is to Mazda what the Mustang is to Ford, and it doesn't seem like Mazda can afford to get the ND wrong. I just really hope they don't screw things up and go back to the roots of lightweight/handling, which it seems like they are going to.
I love the smile on my 2001. I wish it would come back.
All the talk about the next Miata is that it's supposed to be a return to the original concept. With the exception of the orange one shown above, all renderings I've seen are completely hideous. The most beautiful thing about the Miata from the very beginning (to me) was that it looked like a happy little Autopia car! I don't want a car that looks like it belongs in a Stephen King movie.
And when will they get away from the dark, depressing colors? Bring back the yellow. And I'd love to see it in a retro-aqua.
