From what I have heard, it is very simple. Judges frown on Miatas in LeMons, they work way too well. However, funky iterations of Miatas have a much greater chance.

I like to think these kind of swaps happen because the right parts just happen to be sitting around in the same garage and someone thinks they would be good together.
