We will depart from the Gate Station at US 1 and State Road 210 (old Palm Valley Road) at 9:30. For those from Middleburg, Fleming Island, St Augustine or other parts south, there is an alternate meet location at the Walgreens at the intersection of State road 16 & State Road 13A. We should meet there at 9:45-9:50. From there, the drive will take us through farm country, cattle country and the fern capital of Florida, as well as miles of oceanside & coastal driving (including High Bridge Rd. & Water Boardman Ln.). Our destination is the Blackwater Inn on the St John's River in Astor, Fl. The inn has reserved a room for us with an arrival time around 12:30-1:00. Boat tours of the River and Lake George are available at the inn.
So, gas up and meet the gang on March 22 for another great day of "Miataering!"

How wow, Blackwater Inn. That brings back memories when my family still had the Eliminator.

I've looked at the menu and I see Gator Tail.

    Fried Alligator Bites - $8.99
Marinated gator tail, deep fried, served with honey mustard
    Florida Cracker Platter - $17.99
3 oz. of gator tail, 3 oz. frog legs, 6 oz. fingerling catfish - breaded and deep-fried.

Our event coordinator is a GREAT drive planner. His strives to make journey even more interesting than the destination (although the destination is usually pretty good too) and has been quite successful. He finds interesting, scenic and fun-to-drive roads in this state, which are of course mostly known for flat and straight.

Jim, our Events Coordinator, has worked out a "bonus" option for those making tomorrow's drive to the Blackwater Inn. He has arranged a river cruise that leaves from the inn and tours the St. Johns River and other waterways in the area. We should arrive at the inn for lunch around 1:00pm. For those interested, the boat tour will leave between 3:00pm and 3:30pm (possibly earlier if they don't have a 1:00 tour). The cruise lasts approximately 2 hours. Cost is $25 for less then 15 people or $20 for 15-21 people. At the start of the drive, Jim will ask for a show of hands for those interested so he can call ahead to make final arrangements.

Here is a link for more information on the boat tour: http://stjohnsrivertours.com/Custom-Boat-Tours.html

If you are planning on coming on the drive, please RSVP at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/events/434451223324260/
