Finished the clutch job (Exedy stage 1 organic). So happy to have Betty back on the road. Very happy to have a quiet operating clutch again. Getting used to the bit stiffer pressure plate. And hopefully I won't have any trans leaks for a while.

I took off the TSI's and put tinted side markers and turn signals in. Also installed the front lip. It looks much cleaner now.

I had a friend make a timelapse as we tore the head off.

I was planning on just replacing the head gasket but now I may do a full tear down and port it and get it planed. Do I patch the 1.6 back together as I rebuild the spare 1.8 I've got, or do I go ahead and clean up the 1.6 so I can sell it for more later? Decisions, decisions.

finally drove the car for the first time in several months, so i can pass my last emissions test (which i did). got home from work and put in the LED "bulbs" in the gauge cluster and my oh my, do they look great. i'll get some pictures soon but the blue color they give off, while nice, washes out the red paint on the needles because they're so much brighter than stock. i can still see the needles, but it's too bad it's not a bright red as it usually is.

plan for tomorrow, install my new shift knob before work and feel what it's like =)

    Bonus free upgrade!
I made a huge suspension update which altered the ride height and the stiffness dramatically!

.... by going from 15psi to 30psi in the tires ;)

As mundane as putting air in your tires is, it made my 97 ride like crap. Prolly gonna cut back to half that tonight. The fun roads here are too rough in spots to have go kart suspension(see:none) and super hard tires

If you are looking for resale value, I'm not sure it would raise your total asking price by the total cost of the porting, planing, polishing (why not), and bearings (why not). Unless, of course, you can do all that yourself or at a good buddy discount...

Good work Jim, are you going to put a black crash pad on, instead of the tan?

I turned 240,000 miles on Lil red yesterday & gonna put some more on her today. New floor mats, upper & lower shift boots on order, Want new seats, but picking up some nice seat covers today. Last week installed new rear diff, balanced drive shaft with new u-joints, 4 new tires balanced & aligned (slight camber mod)... my wallet needs a break for now. Post pics later...

Yes. I am going to head to a local Pick & Pull to see if the three Miatas they had last Fall made it through the Winter. And if so... I'll see if they have a decent black dash pad. If not, I'll grab the one out of my Red '91, it's in great condition.

here's my new blue LED gauge cluster lights.
    tumblr_n3utezeUTm1r5tqo1o1_500.jpg

and here's my new Carbing Shift Knob installed. don't let the size fool you! it's a tiny thing, and weighs noticeably less than the stock knob.
size wise, i'd compare it to a large/fat king sized Sharpie permanent marker.

I was lucky to find a black dash pad at my local Pick & Pull yard (they had 4 NA Miatas). I cleaned the pad up, and just set it in, not glued yet, to see if it matched the dash (factory painted) and leather gauge hood. I must say, I'm pretty happy with how well they match.
