What shift knob setup is this?

    Hi everyone,

Anyone know what this gear shift setup is/called and what needs to be done to achieve this?

looks like a dog box shifter.

Yep, Shifter & extender are custom. If you want a thicker extender you would probably need to do the same, otherwise Miataroadster is probably the most popular/highly rated shift extender in the community.
The boot is from an Audi TT and the trim ring looks like a 'Cobra shift trim ring', there are 100's to choose from online.

Thanks yes it seems so, far from dog box since there are no relevant engine work but looks great to me as an x-rally car owner driver.

Closest you'll find is from http://www.MiataRoadster.net and I believe they are offering a group buy for custom shifters right now. So might want to email them to get on the list. You can find more info on the options available in the sponsor section as well.
PMed MiataRoadster but the forum page says they dont do group buy anymore and refer people to their site for ordering. However, there are no straight tall option available on their site. Strange, because from what I see in the forum page no one put their name down (at least in the forum) and there is a photo of stock available. Was really interested but I guess there is always a timeframe issue with oversease customers. However, it says deadline 1st of June which should be today in USA!

Miataroadster shifter extender looks better in my point if view. They offer several options. The tall, short and an angled version. This is how the short version looks

    Very Nice, I Like! (Borat)

I like this but about 2" taller!

The only question is that Revlimiter reviewed the first release of these short shifters by MiataRoadster to be same as the stock shifter not any shorter, and the second release (recent) to be a very small amount of shortness than the stock. Ive had this done to other cars and short shifter is really noticeable. Maybe its the way that Miata's gearbox was designed so you cant get any better achievement. I just hope using a straight tall shifter option, I wont be punching the radio knob while shifting.
