Custom Stripes - Paint or vinyl ?

I have an idea for a custom stripe configuration I want to do with black as the base stripe and red highlight stripes as in this picture.

However, the stripe will not just be straight.
Part of my design concept would fill and follow the bump on the hood. That would be an easy shape to follow by painting but may not be an easy shape to design with vinyl stickers due to the hood contours.

    Should I go paint?

Custom Stripes - Paint or vinyl ?

I would go vinyl. The quality of the material and the customization is a lot better than a few years ago. It lasts longer and can be cut in intricate shapes so that painting and blending is a costlier, more laborious method.

I like the color scheme, I have a soft spot for white cars, but I think you owe it to yourself to explore different options that are bespoke to your car. I think Cobra stripes are neat on a Cobra, but passé on a Miata.

I would consider taking some of the savings using vinyl vs paint and applying that towards working with a graphic designer to get something unique visualized before applying.

Will second vinyl. In general I like the ability to undo modifications and go back to stock as my taste changes with time. That's why I always keep or buy spares

I remember when CDs came out. I stuck with vinyl.
