    Jace's 1990 NA6 - Buy Wheels Everyday

thought i would review my Roadster story with you guys.

to do so, we must go back to about 7 months ago when i was in the market for something a little bit special. i was seeking an MX5 'Clubman' or a Malibu Gold (both Australian special editions) or a simple, early, Classic Red NA6 with very low K's...

I was having no luck even though I had a considerable budget for the 'right' car, and turns out i'm not so patient.
i figured i'd just make something a lil bit special (to me at least) out of a very ordinary white NA6 (also turns out that in the last month or three, more than a few 'right' cars have popped up and some at very tempting prices, but i guess that's life and i now know that patience really is a virtue)

pics from right after i arrived home with it

tandem carwash (had also installed at least the front r-speed lip spoiler, not sure about the rear)

cleaned the interior to a satisfactory level

the very first addition was a Zoom Engineering fuel lid that I think I had bought before i even bought the car.
also a pre-purchase purchase, some Watanabes were on their way to me via sea, 14x6.5 +9.5 with some cracked and unusable RE-11's

    pic from the auction

i also bought some Yellowspeed Racing coilovers straight after i bought the car (i guess i had a few $k left over from not buying a mint, sought-after model)

I installed the new props, rolled my guards and fitted my new wheels at the same time

right about now i felt my efforts (read: reckless spending) had come to fruition, i was stoked!

at some point i had decided that i didn't want a soft top hanging around, stinking up my interior with 22 years of decaying vinyl, so out it came

then came runabout mirrors, amaaazing quality

then i trespassed a lil bit

some more minor additions have followed like a Nardi steering wheel

some replacement rego plates (i think you guys call em 'tags' in the states?)

got a seat and some floor mats too

and that is more or less the way it has stayed for a couple of months now

and this is where we're at.

i daily drive this car, it's too much fun to leave sitting around! somewhere in ^there i also replaced the A/C compressor and most recently changed the clutch and installed an intake.

i've been recklessly buying parts from yahoo auctions in recent times
i have on their way to me two sets of 14" wheels.
one set is 14x6.5 +13 and the other is 14x7 +9/-3. both SSR. both 4x100. both in need of restoration, which i'm really looking forward to!

i'll log my weekend drives here and be sure to update as i receive parts!
i'll hopefully also be able to log my wheel restoration here soon enough

    thanks for reading.

There is a clean beauty in the lines of a white Miata. Very nice car, and tasteful mods done so far.

thanks mate. it's an expensive habit no matter where you live, but i would estimate shipping from japan to the UK would be killer!

    yeah, ¥51000

shipping still kinda blows that way out of proportion given the money i'll be spending on them, but meh!

small update. it's been a while.
this is the most recent pic i have of the car

i've been through a few other cars but the MX5 has stuck around. I know if i sell it, i'll regret it and want another so it just sits...
the paint on the alluminium panels is failing and thats pretty disheartening.

i have two other minor restorations that distract me and both of them are much more comfortable and easy to drive than the MX5

it needs a suspension refresh, a TorSen, and some paint. maybe i'll give it a birthday in the new year!
