Mazda MX-5 GT gets green light

The more powerful Mazda MX-5 GT is now available through it's official racing partner, Jota Sport

The Mazda MX-5 GT was such a hit when it was shown in concept form at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed that you can now buy one for yourself. It will be sold not as an official Mazda UK product, but Jota – the team that prepares Mazda’s racing cars – will upgrade the standard Mazda MX-5 for you, boosting power to 203bhp.

Homologating the MX-5 GT for the road would take too long, so buyers can only buy the kit as a modification after registering their standard roadster. JOTA has tweaked the ECU and fitted a sports exhaust so power from the 2.0-litre engine increases from 157bhp in the regular MX-5. It’s also uprated the suspension, and modified the styling to resemble the Goodwood car.

The MX-5 GT has a three-year warranty, and while the price hasn’t been finalised, we were told it’ll be less than £30,000.

The standard Mazda MX-5 costs from £18,495, and is available with either a normal fabric roof or a folding metal one. Climate control comes as standard throughout the range, and go for the Sport Tech Nav trim and you also get a TomTom sat-nav with a touchscreen display.

The 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre engines in the standard Mazda MX-5 produce 124bhp and 157bhp respectively, and while the larger engine gets a six-speed gearbox, the 1.8-litre unti gets a five-speed 'box instead. You can also spec an automatic gearbox with paddles on the steering wheel.

Mazda has also recently launched two high-spec versions of its CX-5 SUV. The SE-L Lux will cost £24,495 while the SE-L Lux Nav will be £25,195. Both wil get a 148bhp 2.2-litre diesel as well as a powered sunroof, leather and heated front seats. The SE-L Lux Nav also gets sat-nav.

My lust for an NC continues to grow. I wonder how they are boosting power?

Edit: I see they are tweaking the ECU and exhaust. That is quite a lot of power added for such little modification it seems.
95 in pieces, but good pieces.

The NC is only rated at 157hp? I should know that but...wow

We don't get the good packages as usual

There's some discussion on those numbers that just confuses me even further, about the time the dyno graph shows up But BHP, HP and numbers that have been "corrected" have always confused the crap out of me, I wish people would just state "at the wheels" or "at the flywheel"

edit: Page 2. Cams and ITBS...this is going to be a seriously nice package 200hp !

I actually got to sit in one at Goodwood when they were first shown and I did not want to get out. But for the price you could get a whole lot of car used... but ITB's on an NC is epic.
